AMAZON jobs offered in Spain have historically been in Barcelona or Madrid, but the latest recruitment drive – seeking 200 employees at first – is in the Murcia Region.
The online retail giant is expecting to open its logistics centre in Los Martínez del Puerto, very close to the airport, in May.
It is predicted to create 1,000 new jobs directly, in addition to the 200 to be taken on in time for its opening.
Located next to the motorway between Murcia city and Cartagena, the hub building takes up about one-sixth of the 12-acre site and will serve the east coast and eastern Andalucía.
Amazon has been expanding constantly in Spain since the amazon.es site was launched in 2011 – by the end of last year, a total of 7,000 permanent employees were on its books, of whom 2,200 were taken on in 2019 alone.
Last year’s new jobs were in the logistics centres and also software engineers, data scientists and Cloud experts.
